I’m no mushy…sucka for love ass chick.

What an opening, but the moral of the story is…in regard to love and relationships and everything in between, I’ve always been a bit of a cynic. I mean always. If you know me, or have read anything I’ve written on the subject, you can probably cite this verbatim,but nevertheless…at the tender of age of 3…I informed the world (well my mother who passed the story along), but anyway, I proclaimed divorce the solution for any man that did not love his woman (I blame this on babysisters that watched Y & R on the daily).

This campaign…has changed my mind…slightly (c’mon cynicism isn’t easy to kill)…

While Barack and Michelle have served as a shining example of success against the odds, I can’t help but say that I have been totally and completely in awe of one special thing about them…the genuine love that they share. When that MAN looks at HIS WOMAN…there is no question that he is hers and that she is his.

In the age of of she’s got her own vs. mofos ain’t spit…it has been simply refreshing to watch the gentle caresses, tender embraces, and whispered I love yous.

I always feel like Tony Terry is playing in the background when I look at them,

People do stop and stare and smile at us
When I’m with you, the sun shines my way
Baby, our love reflects its rays of light on everyone in the world”

They’ve got sistas AND brothas all around the country yearning for their own Barack and Michelle moments. I was talking to my girl earlier and she said a line that I’ve heard from other women and kinda (yes kinda) thought myself, “Where is my Barack?”

My hope is that while he may not appear inexact Barack packing…that he be sent from HIM and that his love will be just as true (a nice tailored suit is also a bonus…lol).

Do I think the Obamas are perfect? No…c’mon now…EVERY facet of life (especially love) has its highlights and challenges, but in an age of Real Gold Digging Housewives (a boo boo kitty mess), tip drills, and everything else that our love is portrayed as…it is so good to see and FEEL something REAL.

Whitney Houston once said, “Black LOVE is REAL love”…thank you Michelle and Barack for that reminder yo…

(Side Note: I think they have shown us ALL what love is…love beyond the borders of race, color, or creed…it’s love in the purest form)

Now if only I could stop thinking about Bustin Windows and putting this Tahoe on flats…LMAO…I kid I kid….you know people do have to learn…lol

As we all know the only thing guaranteed in this life is change…

On to the post shall we…

Ah well..where to start.  Since I’m coming off the worst bout of writer’s block I’ve ever experienced, I’m not quite sure.  I have too much to write about…so much that I’ve been thinking about.  Maybe I should do a series called “BROTHAS CONFUSE THE HELL OUT OF ME!”  Yep. Sounds right to me.

See, I’m not one of those people that tries to “diagnose” black men’s maladies.  Wait is “maladies” too harsh of a word?  Ah well…the point is, I don’t walk around pronouncing myself an expert on Black men or Black manhood or the plight of the Black man, etc. That’s not my place, I’m still working on me, ya feel me. And while I will cite trends and commonalities, I will never try not to generalize Brothas into buckets, because on the real Brothas are the most complex specimen of life on this Earth.

And when I say COMPLEX…I MEAN COMPLEX. Complex…emotional beings from Mars.  Complex, emotional, and stubborn beings from Mars. Complex, emotional, stubborn and fragile beings from Mars.

Fellas, is it really that hard to open up and let someone care for you solely for the purpose of wanting to be there for you, no strings attached?  What is this whole “I’m dealing with it thing.”   What is this whole, “ I can’t show you my human side because of fear that I’ll be less of a man in your eyes…” thing?

I blame society for not allowing brothas to feel like they can be free to show emotion and to seek support from the people around them, that want to love them in their entirety. I blame society for making men feel like they can’t be fragile, that they can’t seek love and comfort in their time of pain, sorrow, and confusion.

Damnit Cyrano (check out the play Cyrano de Bergerac if you need a reference…lol).

It makes me think of the whole notion that Men Cry in the Dark. Why cry in the dark…when you have somebody that wants to hold you and help you through the tears?

And when you push us away so that you can “deal”…what is the incentive for coming back?

Ah well…

P.S. I love Adele and her video for “Chasing Pavements” clearly fits my mood right now…

Now yall..I would have said this if she was not a B.I.G. Girl…coffee tables were not meant to be stages…

I really tried not laugh….I did…I wasn’t successful, but the point is I still tried…ah well…if you haven’t seen this yet…check out…”Scarlet Takes A Tumble.”

I admit, I wasn’t really checking for what Ciara would be putting out this time around, but just like last time, she came with a good song and great video.  Promise was my joint! And Like a Boy was great too.  This time around Ciara is a Go Girl.  The video and song featuring T-Pain is hot, definitely something different, but I think its hilarious how when Ciara is on the bike and the sparks shoot out it looks like she let one go lmao! I know, I’m a fool.

But let me say this, before Ciara was a Go Girl, Brooke Valentine was a Dope Girl [check out the video] {rip pimp c} and highly slept on as well as her debut album Chain Letter.  Her sophomore album never saw the light of day much to my disdain.  And like Nicole Wray, i did a small post on her on my personal blog, I don’t believe she got the opportunities she deserved.  Timing can be a bitch.

Usher is back with Confessions worthy swag in his sexy new video for Trading Places.  The song is not my favorite, but I approve, you know sassy girls like to take control.  Gon’ get it get it get it get it!

..on another note i think i could’ve felt the video a little more if the girl was a little browner

Here’s the trailer (click the pic) for Notoious..Angela Bassett plays his mom, Derek Luke plays Puff (Diddy, whatever you wanna call him), rapper Gravey plays the Notorious one, Anthony Mackie plays Tupac, and Natauri Naughton (formerly of 3LW, you know the little chocolate one) is playing Lil Kim.  I didn’t think she or Derek Luke could pull off but their roles, but from the looks of the trailer its more than possible.

Check out Ne-Yo’s video for She’s Got Her Own (Miss Independent’s remix).  The song features Jamie Foxx and Fabolous while the video features boss chicks Teyana Taylor, Jill Marie Jones, Eve, Estelle, Keyshia Cole, and twins Malika and Khadija (you know…ATL, and Khloe Kardashian’s best friends)..I think those are their names.

I think I could feel the song a little more if it were over a different track but the message is good nonetheless.

The music itself is not bad, but ths is the type of song I would skip on an album because of its content alone.  I don’t need any type of ignorance seeping into my brain.  It’ a horrile message to send out to women also.  I know music is supposed to speak to people of all walks of life, but no one needs to co-sign on this one.
